JVC announces to the public their development of the world’s smallest professional format 3-CCD camcorder. JVC GY-HM100 is the first professional solid state camcorder that can store files in the native Quicktime format for Apple’s Final Cut Pro.

According to JVC, they have adopted this new technology to answer the demands in the developing professional video market wherein recordings are made directly from camera to solid state memory. This has been quite pricey for the users of ordinary camcorders. Aside from that, there has always been a problem on compatibility of raw format files when it comes to non-linear editing (NLE) systems, so there is often a need for tedious reformatting of recorded material. But with the GY-HM100, these problems are history. It can record 720p (19/35Mbps) and 1080i (25Mbps) in SP mode which is compatible to the NLE systems.
Another remarkable feature of this camcorder is its size. Again, it is the smallest professional format 3-CCD camcorder which makes it very suitable in taking and recording videos within small spaces and is practical when you work in likely to be unsafe places or situations (you can hide it easily). Despite its size, it still gives good quality of video. The JVC GY-HM100 uses a high definition lens (by Fujinon) which has three aspherical elements. The lens surface reduces flaring, ghosting, and blurring of takes.
